Short answer. For every holiday on which your hours differ from normal, add special hours to your Business Profile, ideally two to three weeks ahead (that timing is our habit, not a Google rule). Then look at your profile on the morning of the day. Customers who find you closed when Google said open are the ones who remember.
The steps, in order
Google’s help page gives these steps for the Business Profile site, read on 30 October 2026. The card shows them in order. Google also says it is a good idea to confirm your hours for official holidays, even if they match your regular hours.
Steps
Set special hours in six steps
- Go to your Business Profile. business.google.com.
- Select Edit profile, then Hours.
- Next to Special hours, select Edit.
- Choose a date. Select Review to accept a date Google suggests, or Add a date to enter your own.
- Set open or closed. If you are open, untick Closed and enter your hours. If closed, leave it ticked. Select More, then Add hours, for two sets of hours in one day.
- Select Save.

The 2026 dates to think about
The Province of BC lists these as statutory holidays in 2026: Remembrance Day on Wednesday 11 November, Christmas Day on Friday 25 December and New Year’s Day on Friday 1 January 2027. Boxing Day is not a statutory holiday in BC, but many businesses close or shorten the day, so set it if your hours change. A statutory holiday is not the same as being closed: you decide your own hours, so set the ones you will keep.
We follow the same BC statutory holidays on the studio’s own profile this year: Remembrance Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
If the edit will not save
Google’s page says special hours appear only when your business hours are set to Open with main hours. If your profile says something else, such as temporarily closed, change that first. We have not found a published list of other causes, and people report this problem on forums without a single answer. If it still fails, check that you are signed in as an owner or manager of the profile and use Google’s own support.
Keep the rest matching
Your website, Facebook page and other listings should show the same holiday hours. If they disagree, customers trust whichever they saw last. If you work from home and hide your address, the hours still show: see Should a home-based business hide its address on Google?.
A few common questions
Why can’t I edit my holiday hours on Google?
The first thing to check, per Google’s help page, is that your hours are set to Open with main hours. Also check that you are signed in as an owner or manager.
When should I set holiday hours on Google?
Before the holiday, not on the day. Two to three weeks ahead is our habit, and it leaves time to fix a mistake.
Do I need to add special hours if I am open as usual?
Google says it is a good idea to confirm your hours for official holidays even when they match your regular hours.
